I think there is a big fear of letting people know what you don’t know. You think,
“Okay, I can’t let this person know that I don’t know this. That would hurt my image.”
But having that willingness to be a little bit vulnerable - showing interest in learning and your admiration for that person’s knowledge - can actually bump up your standing with that person more often than not.
So, people should remove the fear and see that mentoring is a critical path to development,
to strengthening those relationships, and to getting a higher profile in the organization.
